Washington Nationals vs. Philadelphia Phillies – 8/26/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-26 18:05:00 EDT

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals meet in an NL East division matchup from Nationals Park on Wednesday.

The Philadelphia Phillies will try to build off of an 8-3 win over the Nationals on Tuesday night. J.T. Realmuto led the way by belting a three-run home run while Andrew McCutchen and Jean Segura each had two RBIs with Segura going 3 for 5 at the dish. Alec Bohm added an RBI to round out the scoring for the Phils in the winning effort while Roman Quinn had two hits. Didi Gregorius and Scott Kingery each had a double while Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins each chipped in a base knock to finish off Philadelphia’s offense as a team in the win. Jake Arrieta got the win to improve to 2-3 on the year after allowing one run on three hits over five innings of work. Aaron Nola will start here and is 2-2 with a 3.10 ERA and 40 strikeouts this season. In his career, Nola is 4-6 with a 4.22 ERA and 123 strikeouts against Washington.

The Washington Nationals will try to rebound from Tuesday’s defeat to the Phillies. Adam Eaton and Trea Turner each had a solo home run while Asdrubal Cabrera went 2 for 4 and Luis Garcia had a double. Kurt Suzuki and Victor Robles each had a base knock as well to finish off the offense for the Nats in defeat. Erick Fedde ended up with the loss, falling to 1-2 after allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings of work. Patrick Corbin will start here and is 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA and 31 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 5-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 57 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is 0-4 in their last 4 games as a road favorite and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Washington is 4-13 in their last 17 home games and 37-16 in their last 53 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games within the division. The under is 5-1-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.

I get why Philly on the road is tempting as Nola was pitching like a Cy Young candidate before getting torched for four runs in just 2.2 innings against the Braves last time out. On the other hand, while Corbin’s pitched well at times and has had success against the Phillies in his career, he’s allowed eight runs in his last two starts spanning 11.1 innings and the Nationals just can’t win at home for whatever reason. I think both pitchers are due but the starts have to come out of the game at some point and these are two of the worst bullpens in all of baseball. Give me the over here.
