The Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners meet in game one of a double-header in MLB action from T-Mobile Park on Monday.

The Oakland A’s will look to bounce back after a 6-3 loss to the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Tommy La Stella had a solo home run while Jonah Heim and Stephen Piscotty each had RBIs as well to finish off the scoring for Oakland in the losing effort. Mark Canha went 2 for 4 with a triple and Marcus Semien had a double while Robbie Grossman added a base hit as the A’s had just six hits as a team in the losing effort. Frankie Montas took the loss, falling to 3-4 on the year after allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out seven over 5.1 innings of work. Jesus Luzardo will start for Oakland in this one and is 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 45 strikeouts this season. This will be Luzardo’s first career start against Seattle.

The Seattle Mariners will look to build off of their 7-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks last time out. Donovan Walton led the Mariners with three RBIs with a double while Phillip Ervin, Kyle Lewis and Jose Marmolejos each had an RBI with Ervin and Marmolejos each logging a double as well. Ty France added a double while Dylan Moore, Evan White, Joseph Odom and Dee Strange-Gordon each had a base hit to round out the offense for Seattle in the win. Justin Dunn allowed one run on one hit over two innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Casey Sadler got the win in relief to improve to 1-0 this year. Marco Gonzales will start here and is 5-2 with a 3.02 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gonzales is 4-3 with a 3.54 ERA and 42 strikeouts against Oakland.

Oakland is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 39-14 in their last 53 games following a loss while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 series-opening games. Seattle is 7-0 in their last 7 home games and 6-0 in their last 6 games within the division while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog. Oakland is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and the under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.

Oakland looks like the team to beat out of the AL West this season, but the problem is that Oakland’s had up and down grooves lately and while Seattle’s still battling, they’re also far better than what a lot of people (myself included) thought they would end up being this year. Gonzales has also rebounded nicely from a rough opening day start, posting a 5-1 record with a 2.72 ERA and just four walks across 50+ innings of work. I just think Gonzales can set the tone for a solid performance from the Mariners on Monday, so give me Seattle to take game one of the double dip on Monday.
