Chicago White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins – 9/16/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-16 20:10:00 EDT

The Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox meet Wednesday in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field.

This will be the third installment in a four-game series between these teams this week. The White Sox banged out a 3-1 victory in the opener. In the Tuesday game, Chicago jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead after three innings and rode that wave to a 6-2 win and a 2-0 series lead. The Twins posted just four hits in the loss on Tuesday, and allowed 12 to the White Sox. Byron Buxton was just about the only bright spot on the offense, posting a homer, two hits and two runs. Starting pitcher Randy Dobnak went 4.1 innings with four earned on eight hits and four strikeouts.

For the Wednesday starting pitcher role, Minnesota is sending out Jake Odorizzi. Over 10.0 innings pitched this season and an 0-1 record, Odorizzi has an 8.10 ERA with nine strikeouts, two walks and a .370 OBP. In his last start August 21, Odorizzi went 3.0 innings in a loss with seven hits and five earned runs.

Over on the White Sox’ side, Tuesday starter Dane Dunning went 7.0 innings and had three hits, two runs (one earned) and seven strikeouts in the win. Both Jose Abreu and Tim Anderson had three hits, combining for three runs and an RBI as well.

In the Wednesday starting pitcher job, the White Sox will send out Lucas Giolito. Over 10 starts this season, Giolito is 4-2 with a 3.43 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 60.1 innings of work. In his MLB career, Giolito is 31-28 with a 4.45 ERA and 480 Ks in 477.0 innings total.

The Twins are 6-1 in the last seven games versus a team with a winning record and 9-2 in their last 11 games versus the American League Central. Minnesota is 7-2 in their last nine during game three of a series and 3-7 in their last 10 games overall as an underdog.

Meanwhile, the White Sox are 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games and 22-6 in their last 28 versus the American League Central. Chicago is also 6-2 in their last eight during game three of a series and 35-17 in their last 52 games overall.

Pick: I like the White Sox to keep it going in this one. It’s been a pretty good run for Chicago versus the American League Central lately, and the offense is coming off a nice showing on Tuesday. Giolito had some bad at-bats in his last start on Friday, but still went 114 pitches versus the Tigers and helped keep things close. Should be a good opportunity for Chicago.
