2020-09-20 14:10:00 EDT
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Houston Astros meet in MLB action from Minute Maid Park on Sunday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to the Astros on Saturday. Kole Calhoun went 2 for 4 with a solo home run while Josh Rojas added an RBI as the only other Diamondback to score in the losing effort for Arizona. David Peralta and Daulton Varsho each had a double to cap off Arizona’s offense as the D-Backs had just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Luke Weaver took the loss, falling to 1-8 on the year after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings of work. Madison Bumgarner starts here and is 0-4 with a 8.53 ERA and 19 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bumgarner is 4-2 with a 3.19 ERA and 45 strikeouts against the Astros.
The Houston Astros will look to build off of their victory over Arizona on Saturday. Jose Altuve had a double and two RBIs while Kyle Tucker added an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the ‘Stros in the victory. Michael Brantley went 2 for 4 at the dish while George Spriner and Josh Reddick each had a base hit as well as the Astros had just six hits as a team in the win. Cristian Javier gave up two runs on four hits with six strikeouts, not factoring in the decision. Enoli Paredes got the win to improve to 3-2 on the year while Ryan Pressly closed things down for his 11th save of the season. Jose Urquidy will start here and is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. This will be Urquidy’s first career start against Arizona.
Arizona is 5-14 in their last 19 games against a team with a losing record and 7-22 in their last 29 games overall while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall. Houston is 4-1 in their last 5 interleague home games and 46-17 in their last 63 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite. The over is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
You could make a case that Urquidy’s roughest starts have come as a result of not having much time to get acclimated while the season was going on full time. On the other hand, MadBum’s been god awful this season and I don’t see if turning around in this one. I’ll side with Houston to get the job on the run line as my pick for this game.
