Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers – 9/21/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-21 16:10:00 EDT

The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from Angel Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The Texas Rangers will look to build off of a 7-2 win over the Angels from Sunday’s matchup. Joey Gallo and Rougned Odor each had a home run and two RBIs with Gallo belting a two-run shot while Gallo had a double and a solo homer. Anderson Tejeda, Derek Dietrich and Sam Huff all had solo homers as well to finish off Texas’ scoring as a team in the winning effort. Willie Calhoun went 2 for 4 at the dish while Isiah Kiner-Falefa added a base knock as well to finish off Texas’ offense as a team in the victory. Kyle Cody got the win to improve to 1-1 on the year after allowing one run on three hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Kyle Gibson will start here and is 2-5 with a 5.18 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gibson is 3-4 with a 5.01 ERA and 50 strikeouts against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to bounce back after yet another frustrating performance in their loss on Sunday. Taylor Ward and Shohei Ohtani each had an RBI to make up the scoring for the Angels in the loss while Justin Upton added a double. Mike Trout, David Fletcher and Jared Walsh all had base hits as well in the losing effort as the Halos cranked out just five hits as a team in defeat. Julio Teheran took the loss, falling to 0-4 on the year after allowing three runs on two hits over just one inning of work. Dylan Bundy will start here and is 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 69 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bundy is 4-1 with a 2.61 ERA and 40 strikeouts against Texas.

Texas is 15-37 in their last 52 road games and 8-25 in their last 33 games overall while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. Los Angeles is 7-2 in their last 9 games within the division and 5-2 in their last 7 games overall while the over is 21-7-2 in their last 30 home games. Texas is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams but are just 3-13 in the last 16 meetings between the two in Los Angeles.

I get why Bundy would be favored at home with the Angels, but I’m not laying this kind of price when Bundy’s coming off of his worst start of the year, allowing six runs in less than three innings last time up. On the other hand, Gibson was good last time out, but he was torched for five runs in 5.2 innings in his only start against the Angels this season. Instead, I’m going to side with the under. Both teams have trouble stringing consistent offense together and these are two pitchers that have potential to turn this one into a duel. Give me the under here.
