Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers – 9/23/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-23 18:40:00 EDT

The Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds meet Wednesday in MLB action from Great American Ball Park.

This will be the third and final matchup between the Brewers and Reds this week. Cincinnati took the first game Monday with a 6-3 result. On Tuesday in game two, the Brewers evened up by eking out a 3-2 victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks and MLB predictions at Sports Chat Place.

The Brewers had five hits to the Reds’ four in the Tuesday victory, and needed every one of them. Milwaukee’s Eric Sogard was the only team player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Starting pitcher Brett Anderson went 6.0 innings with four hits, one earned and seven strikeouts.

For the Wednesday starting pitcher slot, the Brewers will go with Adrian Houser. In 10 starts this year, Houser is 1-5 with a 5.33 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. Over his MLB career, Houser is 7-12 with a 4.10 ERA and 164 Ks in 177.2 innings.

Over on the Reds’ side, starting pitcher Sonny Gray went 5.0 innings on Tuesday with one earned, one walk and eight strikeouts in a no-decision. The only RBI on the evening came from a Nick Castellanos two-run homer in the first inning. Castellanos now has 14 home runs on the season.
Trevor Bauer will take the mound as the Wednesday starting pitcher for the Reds. In 10 starts this year Bauer is 4-4 with a 1.80 ERA and 88 Ks in 65.0 innings. Over his MLB career Bauer is 74-64 with a 3.92 ERA and 1267 Ks in 1182.0 innings total.

The Brewers are 19-7 in their last 26 Wednesday games and 2-6 in the last eight during game three of a series. The over is 4-1-1 in Milwaukee’s last six Wednesday games and 3-1-1 in the last five games as a road underdog.

Meanwhile, the Reds are 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games and 7-1 in their last eight during game three of a series. The under is 40-17-3 in the Reds’ last 60 Wednesday games and 9-4 in the last 13 games as a favorite.

Pick: Going with the Reds here. Houser got off to a really hot start in 2020, going 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA in his first two starts. Since then he’s been really sketchy at 0-5 with a 6.75 ERA over eight starts and Houser hasn’t gotten past the fifth inning in any of his last five outings. As for Bauer, he’s pitching on just three days’ rest so the Reds will likely be cautious. I think Bauer can come out with a nice performance in game three and put Cincinnati in a good position however.
