Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox – 9/23/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-23 18:10:00 EDT

The Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians meet Wednesday in MLB action from Progressive Field.

This will be the third installment of a four-game set between the White Sox and Indians. Cleveland took a 7-4 victory in the Monday opener. In the Tuesday game, we had a pretty crazy evening as the Indians managed to eke out a 5-3 win in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 10th inning. The White Sox posted eight hits to Cleveland’s six in the Tuesday loss, but couldn’t stop the late-inning breakdown. Edwin Encarnacion finished 2-for-4, and starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez went 5.0 innings with two walks and one earned run on three hits.

For the Wednesday matchup, the White Sox will send out Lucas Giolito in the starting role. In 11 starts this season, Giolito is 4-3 with a 3.53 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 66.1 innings. Across his MLB career, Giolito is 31-29 with a 4.45 ERA and 484 Ks in 483.0 innings.

Over on the Indians’ side, starting pitcher Cal Quantril went 4.0 innings on Tuesday with just one hit, four strikeouts and one walk. Offensively, the lead hitter was Jose Ramirez with a three-run homer in the 10th to clinch the victory.

For Wednesday’s starting pitcher role, the Indians will go with Shane Bieber. Over 11 games this year, Bieber is 8-1 with a 1.74 ERA and 112 Ks in 72.1 innings. Over his career, Bieber is 34-14 with a 3.36 ERA and 489 Ks in 401.1 innings.

The White Sox are 24-8 in their last 32 versus the American League Central and 24-9 in their last 33 games overall. Chicago is 19-39 in the last 58 games as a road underdog and the under is 8-1 in the last nine during game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Indians are 39-16 in their last 55 Wednesday games and 70-34 in their last 104 games as a favorite. The under is 4-1 in Cleveland’s last five during game three of a series and 42-15-3 in their last 60 Wednesday games.

Pick: Going Indians here. Giolito has given up three runs in each of his last three outings, and went six innings in his last appearance versus Minnesota. Giolito gave up two runs in seven innings to Cleveland back on August 9. As for Bieber, he’s been a shining star for the Indians all year, and this will be his last chance to show off his skills for the 2020 AL Cy Young Award. This should be a pretty good starting pitcher matchup, but I like Cleveland behind Bieber obviously. It’ll be an interesting game regardless.
