Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets – 9/24/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-09-24 18:05:00 EDT

The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from Nationals Park on Thursday.

The New York Mets will look to make a final push towards the postseason after an 8-5 loss to the Rays at home on Wednesday. Todd Frazier had a two-run home run while Dominic Smith and Andres Gimenez each had a solo home run. Robinson Cano added an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Mets in the losing effort while Pete Alonso added a double and Jeff McNeil added a base hit of his own as the Mets had just six hits as a team in the loss. Michael Wacha took the loss, falling to 1-4 on the year after allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four over six innings of work. David Peterson will start here and is 5-2 with a 3.80 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. This will be Peterson’s second career start against the Nationals.

The Washington Nationals will try to save some face as they won’t be repeating as World Series champions, sitting at 23-33 and on the brink of being eliminated. What didn’t help matters was the 12-3 loss to the Phillies on Wednesday. Juan Soto went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs while Luis Garcia added an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Nationals in the losing effort. Yan Gomes went 2 for 4 with a double and Andrew Stevenson had a double as well while Josh Harrison added a base hit as the Nats also had six hits as a team in the loss. Erick Fedde ended up with the loss after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five over seven innings of work. Patrick Corbin will start here and is 2-6 with a 4.76 ERA and 57 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 4-5 with a 4.28 ERA against the Mets.

New York is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams and the over is 10-4-1 in the last 15 meetings between these two teams as well.

Corbin is a hard pitcher to get behind this year but he’s had success against the Mets as that’s where Corbin’s two wins this season have come. On the other hand, Peterson’s been a nice addition to the Mets’ rotation, but it still feels like his ERA should be lower than what it is as he hasn’t really been knocked around all that much. I’m going to side with the under here as I think the Nationals get another decent outing from Corbin against New York and I think Peterson thitems another strong outing to finish out his regular season. My stronger play though is on the side and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
