The Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet in game one of the NLCS in MLB action from Globe Life Field on Monday night.
The Atlanta Braves will look to keep their momentum going after completing their second straight series sweep, taking game three against Miami by a final count of 7-0 win in game three, completing the sweep of the Marlins. Travis d’Arnaud and Dansby Swanson each had two RBIs with Swanson belting a triple while d’Arnaud had a double. Marcell Ozuna and Adam Duvall each had an RBI with Duvall adding a double. Freddie Freeman had a pair of hits while Ozzie Albies had a double to finish off Atlanta’s offense in the win. Kyle Wright got the win after tossing six shutout innings with 7 strikeouts. Max Fried will get the start here and is 0-0 with a 3.27 ERA and 9 strikeouts this postseason. In his career, Fried is 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA and 16 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers also will be trying to keep their perfect postseason record in tact after a sweep of the San Diego Padres following a 12-3 win over the Padres in gam three last time out. Will Smith and Cody Bellinger each had three RBIs with Smith going 5 for 6 with a pair of doubles while Bellinger had a triple. Joc Pederson had two RBIs while Mookie Betts, Justin Turner and A.J. Pollock each had an RBI as well. Corey Seager added a base hit as well to round out L.A.’s offense as a team in the victory. Julio Urias got the win after five innings of relief, not allowing an earned run with six strikeouts. Walker Buehler will start here and is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA and 16 strikeouts this postseason. In his career, Buehler is 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA and 12 strikeouts against Atlanta.
Atlanta is 13-4 in their last 17 games against the NL West and 16-5 in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Los Angeles is 42=15 in their last 57 games following a win and 20-8 in their last 28 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 NLCS games. Atlanta is 16-35 in the last 51 meetings between these two teams.
Even with this being playoff baseball, I think Fried and Buehler may have a hard time here dealing with a pair of opposing lineups that can swing the stick right now. Someone’s perfect record is gone after this game and while that could suggest that we see a tight, defensive game to make sure that neither side makes a mistake, I think that both lineups swing the bat to try to put each other away early. I’ll side with the over as my free pick for this game but my stronger play is on who I think wins this game and daws first blood in the series, and I have that pick available as a premium plat that you can find here.
