The Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet in game three of their best-of-seven NLCS series in MLB action from Globe Life Field on Wednesday evening.
The Atlanta Braves will look to take a commanding 3-0 series lead after earning an 8-7 win over the Dodgers in game two last time out. Freddie Freeman led the way, going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs while Ozzie Albies went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Dansby Swanson and Cristian Pache each had a double and an RBI and Travis d’Arnaud had an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for Atlanta in the winning effort. Nick Markakis went 2 for 4 with a double of his own to cap off Atlanta’s offense as a team in the victory. Ian Anderson threw four shutout innings, giving up just one hit while striking out five, not factoring in the decision. Tyler Matzek got the win in relief while Mark Melancon closed out the final batter for the save. Kyle Wright will start here and is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 7 strikeouts this postseason. This will be Wright’s first career start against the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers come into this one looking to get back into the series after falling behind with their loss on Tuesday. Corey Seager led the charge, going 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs while Max Muncy had a home run and two RBIs. Cody Bellinger added a triple and an RBI to make up the scoring for the Dodgers in the loss while Mookis Betts, Justin Turner, Will Smith, A.J. Pollock, Joc Pederson and Chris Taylor all had base hits in the loss, as all nine batters had at least one hit in the defeat. Tony Gonsolin ended up with the loss after allowing five earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work. Julio Urias will start here and is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts this postseason. This will be Urias’ first career start against Atlanta.
Atlanta is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games against the NL West. Los Angeles is 41-15 in their last 56 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 playoff games as a favorite while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 Wednesday games. Los Angeles is 35-18 in the last 53 meetings between these two teams.
I’ve had a hard time gripping the total in this series as the game I thought would be a pitcher’s duel saw Kershaw get scratched and end up as an over while the game I thought may go over ended up finishing with an under. I think this one sees both starters get shoved around early and the runs come early and often. I’ll side with the over as my free pick for this game, but my stronger play is on who wins this game and I have that available as a premium play that you can find here.
