The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays meet Friday in MLB World Series Game 3 action from Globe Life Field.
The Dodgers and Rays are tied at 1-1 in a best-of-seven 2020 World Series. Los Angeles managed an 8-3 victory in Game 1 on Tuesday. In Wednesday’s Game 2, Tampa Bay was able to even it up with a 6-4 win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Los Angeles didn’t quite have the same spark in Game 2 as they did in Game 1, and it showed. In Wednesday’s loss, most of the Dodgers’ offense came via the homer, with Taylor, Smith and Seager each going deep. Starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin took the loss with 1.1 innings and a solo homer allowed.
In the Friday Game 3 starting pitcher role, the Dodgers will send out Walker Buehler. In eight starts this season Buehler went 1-0 with a 3.44 ERA and 42 Ks in 36.2 innings. Over this postseason Buehler is 1-0 with a 1.89 ERA and 29 Ks in 19.0 innings over four starts.
Over on the Tampa Bay side, they couldn’t really get their bats going in the Game 1 loss, getting out-hit 10-6 by the Dodgers. Game 2 looked better, as the Rays notched 10 hits to the Dodgers’ five. Brandon Lowe was the hero in that one, posting two homers and three RBI. Joe Wendle also managed three RBI and a double.
In the Game 3 starting pitcher job on Friday, the Rays will send out Charlie Morton. In nine starts this year Morton went 2-2 with a 4.74 ERA and 42 Ks in 38.0 innings. This postseason Morton is 3-0 with a 0.57 ERA and 17 Ks in 15.2 innings.
The Dodgers are 4-0 in their last four Friday games and 4-1 in their last five playoff games. Los Angeles is 42-14 in their last 56 overall and 20-7 in their last 27 interleague games.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 6-1 in the last seven Friday games and 9-3 in their last 12 after an off day. Tampa Bay is 21-7 in their last 28 in game three of a series and 44-18 in their last 62 overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on the Rays here, but this should be a pretty darn great game. Buehler has been great in the 2020 playoffs with his 1.89 ERA and 29 strikeouts. That’s currently the second-most of the postseason so far. As for Morton, this is his third career World Series start, and he’s 5-0 with a 0.80 ERA in five playoff starts with Tampa Bay. I like the Rays to eke one out in the later innings during a low-scoring affair, but realistically this one looks close in most any scenario.
