The Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees meet Monday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium.

Baltimore played an opening weekend series versus the Red Sox. The O’s won 3-0 Friday and 4-2 Saturday, then in the Sunday game Baltimore made it three straight with a big victory. As for the Yankees, they just played the Blue Jays. New York split the first pair in that set, then on Sunday the Yankees lost by two runs to drop the series. Baltimore handled the Red Sox pretty well in their first two outings, taking a win 3-0 Friday and another 4-2 on Saturday. In the Sunday game, Baltimore posted a dominant 11-3 victory courtesy of seven third-inning runs. Cedric Mullins went 5-for-5 there with three runs.

For the Monday starting pitcher role, Baltimore will go with Jorge Lopez. Last year in nine games for the Orioles (six starts), Lopez posted a 6.34 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 38.1 innings of work. He managed a nice 2.75 ERA in six spring training appearances this year.

Over on the Yankees’ side, they fell to the Jays in extra innings on Opening Day, but got revenge in a 5-3 win on Saturday. In Sunday’s game, New York got a nice 6.0 innings with one hit from Michael King, but could only find five hits total and one RBI from Brett Gardner.

For the starter slot on Monday, New York will go with Jordan Montgomery on the mound. Last year, Montgomery was 2-3 in 10 games, notching a 5.11 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 44.0 total innings. He was 3-0 this spring with a 0.90 ERA and seven Ks in 10.0 innings.

The Orioles are 132-277 in their last 409 overall and 54-119 in their last 173 versus the AL East. Baltimore is 10-30 in their last 40 Monday games and 27-78 in their last 105 in game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are 78-30 in their last 108 home games and 15-6 in their last 21 Monday games. The over is 4-0 in the Yankees’ last four Monday games and 10-3 in their last 13 in game one of a series.

PICK: I’m going to stick with New York. Montgomery lost around 15 pounds this offseason and seems primed for a solid year after a productive spring showing. Lopez looks like he’s going to hit the ground running as well, and going up against that strong Yankees lineup will be a good test for him. Ultimately I like New York’s offense to come through in this one; their bats will have to wake up at some point.
