The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland A’s meet in MLB action from the RingCentral Coliseum on Monday night.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to build on their 4-2 win over the Rockies in Sunday’s series finale. Will Smith had a solo home run while Chris Taylor and Gavin Lux each had an RBI as well in the win. Mookie Betts added a base knock and Zach McKinstry had a double to cap off the offense for the Dodgers in the winning effort. Julio Urias got the win after giving up just one run on three hits while striking out six over seven innings of work. Corey Knebel closed out the 9th for the save. Dustin May will start here and was 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 44 strikeouts last season. This will be May’s second career start against the A’s.
The Oakland A’s will be out to get their first win of the season after being swept by the Astros to start the year following a 9-2 loss to Houston in their series finale Sunday. Jed Lowrie had a double and an RBI while Matt Olson added an RBI as well in the loss. Mark Canha went 2 for 4 with a triple and a double and Matt Chapman added a base hit as well as the A’s had just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Sean Manaea took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits while striking out four over 4.2 innings of work in the defeat. Frankie Montas will start here and was 3-5 with a 5.60 ERA and 60 strikeouts for the A’s last season. This will be Montas’ second career start against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 4-1 in their last 5 interleague road games and 40-13 in their last 53 road games while the over is 5-2-3 in their last 10 games against the AL West. Oakland is 0-4 in their last 4 games overall and 0-5 in their last 5 home games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. Los Angeles is 1-9 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Oakland.
The side is hard to call here as I’m still not really sure what to expect from Dustin May, like the guy throws 95-100 but also only goes four innings but the Dodger offense is more than capable of picking up for whoever is on the mound. On the other hand, Oakland is a lot better than the start that they’ve had up to this point and I’m just waiting for the A’s to turn it around but I’m not sure that the Dodgers is the team I’d bank on that happening against. I think either way you slice it, the offenses come to play here, so give me the over.
