The Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers meet Tuesday in MLB action from Globe Life Field.
This will be game two in a three-game set between these teams this week. In the Monday series opener, the Blue Jays posted a four-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Toronto was able to take care of the Yankees pretty well in their opening series, winning Thursday 3-2 and Sunday 3-1. In the Monday game against Texas, Toronto jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and didn’t look back. Marcus Semien notched two hits with a pair of RBI in that one.
For the Tuesday starting pitcher role, the Jays will send out Tanner Roark. Last year over 11 starts, Roark posted a 6.80 ERA with a 2-3 record and 41 Ks in 47.2 total innings. In four career starts versus the Rangers Roark is 0-4 with a 3.91 ERA.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they had a couple of losses to start out the season but managed a win over Kansas City in the Sunday series finale. In Monday’s game Texas peppered in a couple of runs on five hits but couldn’t keep up. Isiah Kiner-Falefa had another nice game with two hits and a run.
For the Tuesday starting slot, the Rangers are sending out Dane Dunning. Last year with the White Sox Dunning put up a 2-0 record with a 3.97 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 34.0 innings. He posted one start in the spring, notching a 2.16 ERA over 8.1 innings of work.
The Blue Jays are 1-5 in their last six Tuesday games and 1-5 in their last six during game two of a series. Toronto is 3-8 in their last 11 road games and 3-7 in their last 10 road games versus a right-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 4-9 in their last 13 in game two of a series and 13-31 in their last 44 overall. Texas is 13-31 in their last 44 on grass and the over is 2-0-2 in their last four in game two of a series.
PICK: I’m going to take the Rangers in this one. The Blue Jays have been pretty impressive with their bats so far this year, and their bullpen handled the Yankees well overall in their first series. That said, I think Texas can get off to a nice start here with Dunning on the mound. A few opportunistic hits against Roark on the other side could go a long way toward putting the Rangers in position for a win.
