The Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Indians meet in an AL Central division matchup from Progressive Field on Wednesday night.
The Kansas City Royals will look to build on a 3-0 win over the Indians from Monday. Whit Merrifield went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, accounting for all of Kansas City’s offense as a team in the victory while Nicky Lopez went 2 for 3 and Michael A. Taylor, Andrew Benintendi and Hanser Alberto all had base hits as well in the victory. Danny Duffy got the win after throwing six shutout innings, giving up just two hits with five strikeouts. Jesse Hahn closed the deal for his 1st save of the year. Jakob Junis will start here and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season. In his career, Junis is 3-7 with a 6.38 ERA and 57 strikeouts against Cleveland.
The Cleveland Indians will try to rebound after their disappointing performance against Kansas City in the opener on Monday. Franmil Reyes had a double while Amed Rosario and Jose Ramirez each had a base knock as well with the Tribe mustering up just the three hits as a team in the losing effort. Logan Allen ended up with the loss after giving up two runs on five hits with three strikeouts over his five innings of work. Shane Bieber will start here and is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bieber is 4-0 with a 3.70 ERA and 52 strikeouts against Kansas City.
Kansas City is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 54-110 in their last 164 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Cleveland is 4-10 in their last 14 games following a loss and 1-4 in their last 5 home games while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 games following a loss. Kansas City is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I think you could make the case for either here as Kansas City’s had the bulk of the success against Cleveland recently, but not of it really came with unis on the bump while Cleveland has to be better and Bieber’s sure to bounce back it’s just a matter of when. With that said, Junis’ struggles against Cleveland are well documented while Bieber’s had a lot of success against KC in his career. I have to take Cleveland on the RL to shave down this hefty ML price.
