The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies meet in an NL East division matchup from Citizens’ Bank Park on Wednesday night.
The New York Mets will look to build on their 8-4 win over the Phillies on Tuesday night. Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith each had two RBIs with Alonso belting a two-run home run and a double while Smith had a two-run shot of his own. Michael Confort had a double and an RBI and Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo each had a double as well. James McCann had a base knock of his own as the Mets cranked out just five hits as a team in the victory. Marcus Stroman got the win after giving up one run on three hits with three strikeouts over six innings of work. David Peterson will start here and was 6-2 with a 3.44 ERA and 40 strikeouts last season. This will be Peterson’s second career start against the Phillies.
The Philadelphia Phillies will be out to bounce back after their loss to the Mets last time out. Didi Gregorius had a solo home run while Rhys Hoskins went 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI and J.T. Realmutp had an RBI as well in the loss. Adam Haseley went 2 for 3 with a double and Jean Segura had two hits as well while Alec Bohm added a base hit to finish off the offense for the Phillies in defeat. Chase Anderson took the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing two runs on two hits with 3 strikeouts over five innings of work. Aaron Nola will start here and is 0-0 with a 3.70 ERA and 6 strikeouts this season. In his career, Nola is 8-2 with a 3.30 ERA and 114 strikeouts against the Mets.
New York is 15-36 in their last 51 games as a road underdog and 1-4 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 Wednesday games. Philadelphia is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 5-1 in their last 6 division games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a left-handed starter. The over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
Well the Mets finally showed up on Tuesday as they were able to get by Anderson, but now have to face Aaron Nola in a bounce back and that’s not a great spot for the Mets to be in. Nola should be able to control the Mets once again, and I think we get the Phillies and their ace at a decent price so I’ll back the Phils to get revenge in this one.
