The Miami Marlins and the New York Mets meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from Citi Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Miami Marlins will be looking to rebound from a 3-2 loss to the Mets in their last matchup. Corey Dickerson went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Jesus Aguilar added a base hit as well to finish off the scoring for the Fish in the loss while Brian Anderson and Jon Berti each had a base knock as well as the Fish cranked out just five hits as a team in the losing effort. Nick Neidert allowed one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Anthony Bass ended up giving up the controversial walk-off HBP, taking the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year. Trevor Rogers will start here and is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 6 strikeouts this season. In his career, Rogers is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts against the Mets.
The New York Mets will look to build on their win over the Marlins in their last matchup. Jeff McNeil belted a solo home run in the bottom of the 9th and Michael Conforto pushed across the game-winning RBI while Dominic Smith chipped in an RBI as well to cap off New York’s scoring as a team in the win. Brandon Nimmo went 3 for 5 at the dish with a pair of doubles while Francisco Lindor and Luis Guillorme each had a base hit as well to finish off the Mets’ offense in the win. Taijuan Walker allowed two earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Edwin Diaz ended up with the win in relief to improve to 1-0 on the year. Jacob deGrom will start here and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season. In his career, deGrom is 10-8 with a 3.00 ERA and 203 strikeouts against Miami.
Miami is 0-4 in their last 4 games overall and 1-6 in their last 7 games following a loss while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. New York is 2-5 in their last 7 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 division games. Miami is 6-15 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made for either side here as you never want to be on the wrong side of a deGrom gem, but rogers didn’t pitch terribly in his own right and the Fish will want some revenge after feeling slighted with that HBP walk-off last time out. Instead, I’m going to side with the under as I think we end up with a pitchers’ duel here so give me the under.
