The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets meet Tuesday in game one of an MLB doubleheader at Citi Field.

The Philadelphia Phillies look for a win after splitting their last six games. The Phillies have scored 12 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in five of their last six games. The Phillies have won four of their last six games when scoring four or more runs. Rhys Hoskins leads the Phillies with 11 hits and five RBI while Didi Gregorius and JT Realmuto have combined for 20 hits and 14 RBI. Chase Anderson gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA and three strikeouts this season. Anderson is 2-4 with a 4.47 ERA and 44 strikeouts in his career against the Mets.

The New York Mets look for a win to get back to a .500 record. The Mets have scored five runs in their last three games and three or less runs in four of their first five games. The Mets have lost three of their last four games when scoring three or less runs. Brandon Nimmo leads the Mets with seven hits and one RBI while Dominic Smith and Pete Alonso have combined for eight hits and six RBI. Taijuan Walker gets the ball, and he is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA and four strikeouts this season. This will be Walker’s second career game against the Phillies.

The Phillies are 9-4 in their last 13 during game 1 of a series and 1-5 in their last 6 road games. The Mets are 6-13 in their last 19 during game 1 of a series and 2-6 in their last 8 overall. The over is 6-0 in Phillies last 6 overall. The over is 5-2 in Mets last 7 overall. The over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in New York and 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.

I’m not running to the window to get behind either of these starting pitchers, but the Phillies have shown head and shoulders more consistency offensively. The Mets offense has yet to get out of the gate and it’s hard to find confidence in Taijuan Walker given how little he’s pitched the last few years. I’ll back the Phillies because there’s far and away more confidence in the battling order right now.
