The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays meet Monday in MLB action from Dunedin Stadium.

New York is coming off a weekend series versus the Rays. After falling in the first two games, on Sunday the Yankees avoided the sweep with a 10-inning win. As for the Blue Jays, they played the Angels over the weekend. Toronto went 1-2 in the first three games, then on Sunday we had a rainout postponement. New York has had lots of trouble with the Rays over the past couple of seasons, and that trend continued this weekend with losses 10-5 and 4-0 in the first pair. In the Sunday game, New York snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-4 victory. New Yankee Rougned Odor posted a game-winning hit in the 10th in that one.

For the Monday starting role, the Yankees are sending out Gerrit Cole. In two starts this year, Cole has notched a 1.46 ERA over 12.1 innings with nine hits, two earned, one homer, two walks and 21 strikeouts. Cole is 3-0 with a 2.97 ERA in five starts versus the Jays.

Over on the Toronto side, they dropped their first pair versus the Angels 7-5 and 7-1 before getting a big win Saturday 15-1. The Sunday game was rained out, so we’ll get a makeup of that one as part of a split doubleheader in August at Angel Stadium.

For the starter job on Monday, the Blue Jays are going with Robbie Ray. Spring training was great for Ray; he went 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA and 18 strikeouts. He’s coming off the IL after falling downstairs and hurting his elbow.

The Yankees are 43-21 in their last 64 Monday games and 4-1 in their last five versus a team with a winning record. New York is 2-6 in their last eight road games versus a team with a losing record and the over is 4-1 in their last five Monday games.

Meanwhile, the Jays are 7-1 in their last eight Monday games and 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series. The over is 13-5-1 in Toronto’s last 19 Monday games and they’re 18-37 in their last 55 games with the total set at 11.0 or higher.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Yankees here, but probably staying away due to the thick line. New York squandered some major opportunities in the Sunday game versus the Rays, and couldn’t hit with runners in scoring position for most of the game.
