The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays meet in an AL East division matchup in MLB action from TD Ballpark on Tuesday night.
The New York Yankees will look to pick up another win over the Blue Jays after a 3-1 win over Toronto on Monday. Kyle Higashioka did the damage for the Yankees in the win, with a pair of home runs, accounting for all three of New York’s RBIs in the win. Rougned Odor and Mike Tauchman each added a base hit as well as the Yankees mustered up just four hits as a team in the winning effort. Gerrit Cole got the win on the mound to improve to 2-0 after allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts over six innings of work. Aroldis Chapman closed things out for his first save of the year. Jameson Taillon will start here and is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season. This will be Taillon’s second career start against Toronto.
The Toronto Blue Jays will look for a bounce back performance after their loss to the Yankees on Monday. Randal Grichuk had a double and an RBI as the lone run to be plated for Toronto in the loss while Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Rowdy Tellez all had base hits as well as the Jays had just five hits as a team in the defeat. Robbie Ray took the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts over five innings of work. Hyun-Jin Ryu will start here and is 0-1 with a 2.92 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. In his career, Ryu is 1-2 with a 5.53 ERA and 25 strikeouts against the Yankees.
New York is 4-1 in their last 5 games on Tuesday and 2-5 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. Toronto is 4-1 in their last 5 home games and 5-2 in their last 7 games as a home favorite while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 division games. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made on both sides here as New York is a tempting bet at plus/even money and the Jays are a solid look with Ryu on the bump. With that said, I think Taillon shows up here as well and I think we have an under-the-radar pitchers’ duel on our hands. I wouldn’t be surprised with another game with 4-5 runs here, so give me the under in this spot.
