The Cincinnati Reds will look to rebound from a 7-6 loss at the hands of the Giants in their last matchup. Joey Votto and Mike MOustakas each had a 1st inning two-run home run, while Nick Castellanos went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Alex Blandino added an RBI as well to round out Cincinnati’s scoring as a team in the losing effort. Eugenio Suarez added a double and Jonathan India added a base knock as well to cap off Cincinnati’s offence as a team in the loss. Luis Castillo allowed four earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Cionel Perez ended up with the loss in relief to fall to 1-1 on the year. Tyler Mahle will start here and is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts this season. in his career, Mahle is 0-1 with a 7.45 ERA and 10 strikeouts against San Francisco.

The San Francisco Giants will look to build some steam after rallying for Tuesday’s win over the Reds. Mike Yastrzemski and Brandon Crawford each had a two-run home run while Evan Longoria went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and Austin Slater had a triple and an RBI, going 2 for 2 at the dish. Wilmer Flores added an RBI of his own to finish off San Francisco’s scoring as a team in the win while Tommy La Stella went 3 for 3 with a double and Buster Posey had a base hit as well to cap off the Giants’ offence in the victory. Kevin Gausman allowed five earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Wandy Peralta got the win to improve to 2-0 while Jake McGee closed out the 9th for his 5th save of the year. Johnny Cueto will start here and is 1-0 with a 2.51 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season. in his career, Cueto is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 24 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall and 14-5 in their last 19 games as a favorite while the under is 12-3 in their last 15 games against the NL West. San Francisco is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 11-5 in their last 16 home games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a right-handed starter. The over is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.

I get why you’d back the Reds here, as Mahle’s looked good early on and so have the Reds as a team. However, Johnny Cueto is one of those guys that just always seems to provide value as he’s got ace-type stuff when he brings it to the table as we saw in the home opener where he was one out away from a  one-run complete game. I just think that with the Giants holding the momentum after Tuesday’s win, with Cueto on the bump, it’s too much to pass up here. Give me San Fran.
