The Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in MLB action from Busch Stadium on Monday night.

The Washington Nationals will look to rebound from their 3-0 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday. Trea Turner went 3 for 4 at the dish while Starlin Castro had a pair of hits and Andrew Stevenson and Victor Robles each had a hit as well as none of Washington’s seven hits as a team went for extra bases in the loss. Max Scherzer took the L, falling to 0-1 after allowing one run on three hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Erick Fedde will start here and is 0-1 with a 27.00 ERA and 1 strikeout this season. This will be Fedde’s second career start against the Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals will be out to rebound from a 9-3 loss to the Brewers in Sunday’s series finale. Austin Dean went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs while Johan Oviedo added an RBI as well to cap off the scoring for the Cardinals in the losing effort. Yadier Molina also contributed a double while Tommy Edman, Nolan Arenado, Dylan Carlson, Lane Thomas and Justin Williams all had base hits in the defeat for St. Louis. Daniel Ponce de Leon took the loss after allowing seven earned runs on six hits over just 1.1 innings of work. John Gant will start here and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gant is 1-1 with a 4.61 ERA and 11 strikeouts against Washington.

Washington is 0-5 in their last 5 games overall and 1-6 in their last 7 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. St. Louis is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 games as a favorite while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 series-opening matchups. The under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.

The plus money with the Nats is worth a look, but Washington hasn’t really been able to get going to start the year and while the Cardinals were beat up on Sunday, they’ve got a really good lineup and just ran into a buzzsaw in Milwaukee over the weekend. I just think early on there’s more promise with the Cardinals right now, so I’ll lay the juice with St. Louis at home in this one.
