The Texas Rangers will look to add on their 8-3 win over Tampa Bay on tuesday. Charlie Culberson led the way, going 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs while Nick Solak had a double and three RBIs as well. Joey Gallo and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each went 2 for 5 with an RBI as well to cap off Texas’ scoring as a team in the winning effort. Jose Trevino went 2 for 5 at the plate while Adolis Garcia and Nate Lowe each had a base hit as well to finish off the offence for the Rangers in the victory. Kyle Gibson got the win to improve to 2-0 on the year after allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out three over seven innings of work. Kohei Arihara will start here and is 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA and 2 strikeouts this season. This will be Arihara’s first career start against Tampa Bay.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to rebound after their disappointing loss to the Rangers on Tuesday. Yandy Fiaz went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Joey Wendle added a double and an RBI as well while Randy Arozarena and Brandon Lowe each had two hits to cap off TampaBay’s offence as a team as the four batters combined for Tampa Bay’s seven hits as a team in the loss. Ryan Yarbrough ended up with the loss after allowing six runs on ten hits while striking out six over six innings of work. Josh Fleming will make his season debut here after going 5-0 with a 2.79 ERA and 25 strikeouts last season. This will be Fleming’s first career start against Texas.
Texas is 15-36 in their last 51 games overall and 8-22 in their last 30 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the AL East. Tampa Bay is 2-5 in their last 7 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall. The under is 5-1-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made for Texas as the Rangers looked good on Tuesday and while Arihara hasn’t gone deep in either of his outings, he’s had control with just one walk. However, I can’t expect the Rays to lie down two games in a row, and while Josh Fleming is making his season debut here, he was lights out for the most part last season and I have to think that it carries over somewhat here. I’ll back the Rays in a bounce back spot here.
