The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays meet Wednesday in MLB action from Dunedin Stadium.
This will be the final installment of a three-game set between these teams this week. New York managed a 3-1 win on Monday. In the Tuesday game two, the Blue Jays evened it up with a four-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
New York got a big lift from Kyle Higashioka in the Monday game. He turned in two hits, two runs and three RBI. In the Tuesday game two, the Yankees couldn’t find any offense until the late innings, and by then it was too late in a 7-3 loss. DJ LeMahieu notched a pair of hits with a run and a walk in the defeat.
For the starter role on Wednesday, the Yankees will go with Corey Kluber. On the year, Kluber has 6.1 innings with 10 hits, four earned, five walks and eight strikeouts. He lasted just 2.1 innings versus the Rays in his last outing, coughing up two walks and three earned.
Over on the Blue Jays’ side, they got a decent start Monday out of Robbie Ray, who went 5.0 innings with three hits, two earned and three Ks. In the Tuesday game, Toronto chipped in a constant stream of offense and starter Hyun-jin Ryu got the win on 6.2 innings, four hits and seven Ks.
For Wednesday’s starting pitcher role, the Jays will go with Ross Stripling. Through two starts Stripling holds a 7.56 ERA with 13 hits, seven earned and 10 Ks in 8.1 innings. He lasted 3.1 innings on April 3 versus the Yankees, giving up three earned on seven hits.
The Yankees are 70-33 in their last 103 games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and 3-7 in their last 10 Wednesday games. New York is 1-6 in their last seven in game three of a series and the over is 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Jays are 18-40 in their last 58 in game three of a series and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. The under is 15-6-1 in Toronto’s last 22 Wednesday games and 7-3 in their last 10 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with the Yankees, but probably staying away. Kluber is coming off a bad start versus the Rays, giving up five runs (three earned) in 2.1 innings. Stripling was mostly competent in his last outing versus the Angels, but still has that bloated ERA through two starts. This is going to come down to which starter is having a good day, and both guys are in need of solid outings.
