The Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox meet in MLB action from Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Chicago White Sox will hope to build some road momentum but will have to wait until Saturday to try after Friday’s matchup was postponed. Yermin Mercedes continues to tear it up, batting a team-best .476 with a .522 OBP and 20 hits with 4 doubles, 3 home runs and 10 RBIs. Adam Eaton also has 3 homers and 10 RBIs while Jose Abreu and Yoan Moncada each have 9 hits while batting under .200 this season. Luis Robert also has 14 hits with 5 doubles this season. Dylan Cease is expected to get the nod here and is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA and 9 strikeouts this season. This will be Cease’s first career start against Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will look to continue their hot start to the season after Friday’s postponement. J.D. Martinez leads the Red Sox across the board with team-best marks of 5 home runs with 16 RBIs, 7 doubles, 17 hits, a .378 batting average and a .440 OBP this season. Xander Bogaeerts also has 17 hits and 4 doubles while Alex Verdugo has a total of 5 doubles this season. Rafael Devers is 2nd on the team in RBIs with 13 RBIs as well for the BoSox this season. Nick Pivetta is slated to get the start here and is 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. This will be Pivetta’s first career start against the White Sox.
Chicago is 4-11 in their last 15 road games and 1-8 in their last 9 games as an underdog while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Boston is 9-1 in their last 10 games overall and 5-0 in their last 5 games as a favorite while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games against the AL Central. Chicago is 1-6 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made for both sides, as Chicago’s a better team than what they’ve shown so far and Nick Pivetta’s not the easiest guy in t he world to trust. However, neither is Dylan Cease early on this year, and Pivetta’s gotten off to a strong start and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how well the Red Sox are playing right now, almost out of nowhere considering how last year went. I think this price is a steal, so give me the Red Sox here.
