The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers meet Friday in MLB action from Miller Park.

Pittsburgh is coming off a series versus the Padres this week. The Pirates took two of the first three games, then on Thursday Pittsburgh lost by five runs. As for the Brewers, they played the Cubs this week. Milwaukee managed wins in two of the three games there. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Pittsburgh fell 6-2 in the Monday game versus the Padres, but then bounced back for an 8-4 win Tuesday and a 5-1 win Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, the Pirates coughed up six runs in the first two innings on the way to an 8-3 loss. Starter Mitch Keller went just 3.1 innings with seven earned on nine hits.

For the Friday game one start, the Pirates will go with JT Brubaker on the mound. So far through two starts this year, Brubaker has a 1.93 ERA with seen hits, two earned, five walks and 10 strikeouts across 9.1 total innings of work.

Over on the Brewers’ side, they went 2-1 versus the Cubs this week, falling 3-2 on Tuesday and otherwise getting wins 6-3 and 7-0. In the shutout win Wednesday, Brewers starter Corbin Burnes put up 6.0 innings with two hits, no earned and 10 strikeouts.

For the starting role on Friday , the Brewers are going with Adrian Houser. Over two starts and 10.0 total innings this year, Houser has a 1.80 ERA with six walks, seven strikeouts, two earned and 10 hits allowed. He pitched 5.0 innings versus the Cardinals with one unearned run in his last game.

The Pirates are 28-59 in their last 87 games overall and 20-43 in their last 63 in game one of a series. Pittsburgh is 20-53 in their last 73 road games and 0-4 in their last four Friday games.

Meanwhile, the Brewers are 5-1 in their last six Friday games and 2-5 in their last seven in game one of a series. Milwaukee is 5-2 in their last seven versus a team with a losing record and 4-1 in their last five versus the NL Central.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Brewers. Houser had a nice start versus St. Louis in his last game, generating a lot of ground-ball contact and holding the Cardinals to one unearned run. Brubaker has pitched well in his first pair also, so this will be an intriguing starter battle. I like the Milwaukee offense slightly better though. Should be a good one.
