The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Seattle Mariners meet Monday in MLB action from T-Mobile Park.
The Dodgers are coming off a set versus the Padres this weekend. LA took wins in the first two games, then on Sunday couldn’t hold it in a three-run loss. As for the Mariners, they played the Astros this weekend. Seattle split the first pair of matchups there, then in the Sunday rubber match Seattle powered out a five-run win. Los Angeles posted wins in their first two matchups versus the Padres 11-6 and 2-0 over the weekend. In the Sunday matchup, the Dodgers had an early 2-0 lead but coughed up five unanswered in a 5-2 defeat. Starter Trevor Bauer went 6.0 innings with one earned.
For the Monday starting pitcher job, the Dodgers will send out Dustin May. In his two appearances so far, May has logged 10.1 innings, nine hits, two earned runs, three walks, 14 strikeouts and a 1.74 ERA. He went 4.1 innings with two earned his last time out.
Over on the Seattle side, they beat the Astros 6-5 in a tight one on Friday, then lost 1-0 in the Saturday game. In the Sunday rubber match, the Mariners scored four in the fifth inning on the way to a 7-2 victory. Stater Nick Margevicius went 4.0 innings with one earned and three Ks.
For Monday’s starter slot, the Mariners will go with Justus Sheffield. In his two outings so far, Sheffield has 11.0 innings, 11 hits, eight runs (six earned), two homers allowed, four walks and 10 strikeouts with a 4.91 ERA overall.
The Dodgers are 58-17 in their last 75 overall and 42-13 in their last 55 road games. Los Angeles is 39-15 in their last 54 in game one of a series and 2-5 in their last seven Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are 5-2 in their last seven as an underdog and 10-22 in their last 32 versus the NL West. The over is 4-1 in Seattle’s last five in game one of a series and 7-3 in their last 10 Monday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Mariners here. Sheffield had a little trouble in his opening start versus the White Sox, going 5.0 innings with eight hits, four earned, two walks and five Ks. He looked better versus the Orioles on April 13, going 6.0 innings with two earned and two walks. I like Sheffield to post a good enough effort to put Seattle in a winning position during this Monday opener.
