The San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet Thursday in MLB action from Dodger Stadium.
San Diego is coming off a series versus the Brewers. The Padres lost the first two games, then in the finale on Wednesday San Diego fell again. As for the Dodgers, they played the Mariners this week. LA lost Monday but won the Tuesday game. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
San Diego had some trouble with the Brewers in the first two games, falling 3-1 on Monday and 6-0 on Tuesday. In the Wednesday game three, the Padres gave up three runs in the sixth inning in an eventual 4-2 loss. Starter Dinelson Lamet went 2.0 innings with four Ks.
For the Thursday starting role, the Padres will send out Ryan Weathers. Over his three outings so far, Weathers has 9.2 innings with three hits, one earned run (a homer), four walks, 10 strikeouts and a nice 0.93 ERA.
Over on the Dodgers’ side, they took a tough loss on Monday versus the Mariners 4-3, but were able to bounce back with a tight 1-0 win on Tuesday. Starter Julio Urias was great in that one with 7.0 innings, one hit, no earned, one walk and 11 strikeouts.
For the Thursday starting pitcher role, the Dodgers will send out Walker Buehler. Over his 18.0 innings of work in three appearances so far, Buehler has 17 hits, four earned runs, two homers allowed, one walk, 12 strikeouts and a 2.00 ERA overall.
The Padres are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games and 5-2 in their last seven road games. San Diego is 3-7 in their last 10 in game one of a series and 16-37 in their last 53 as an underdog.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 59-19 in the last 78 overall and 59-19 in their last 79 as a favorite. LA is 90-32 in their last 122 home games and 48-18 in their last 66 after an off day.
PICK: I’m going to take the Padres in something of a value pick for this one. We should have a pretty good starting pitcher battle on our hands, though. Weathers pitched 3.2 scoreless innings in his first Major League start his last time out, and Buehler has gone precisely 6.0 innings in each of his first three outings. I like this one to stay low-scoring, with San Diego eking out a win late.
