The Seattle Mariners and the Boston Red Sox meet Saturday in MLB action from Fenway Park.
This will be the third installment in a four-game set between these teams. The Mariners won the series opener on Thursday, then on Friday the Sox evened it up with a one-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Seattle posted a gutsy win on Thursday, pushing out four runs in the top of the 10th inning on the way to a 7-3 result. In the Friday game, the Mariners posted three runs in the ninth inning but couldn’t bridge the gap in a 6-5 loss. Starter Yusei Kikuchi went 4.2 innings with five earned on six hits.
For the Saturday starting pitcher role, the Mariners will go with Chris Flexen. Over his three appearances and 16.0 innings of work, Flexen has 22 hits, seven runs (six earned), one homer allowed, four walks, 14 strikeouts and a 3.38 ERA overall.
Over on the Red Sox’ side, they got a solid outing from starter Nick Pivetta on Thursday with 6.0 innings, one hit and two earned. In the Friday game two, Boston scored twice in the first and twice in the fifth on the way to the victory. Martin Perez went 3.2 innings with two earned and four walks.
For Saturday’s starter job, the Red Sox will turn to Nathan Eovaldi. Across his three starts this year, Eovaldi has 23.2 innings with 21 hits, eight earned runs, four walks, 24 strikeouts and a 3.04 ERA. Eovaldi posted four earned in 6.1 innings on nine hits his last time up.
The Mariners are 7-1 in their last eight Saturday games and 16-5 in the last 21 in game three of a series. Seattle is 9-3 in their last 12 overall and the under is 5-1 in their last six Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 12-5 in their last 17 overall and 81-37 in their last 118 in game three of a series. the over is 18-7-1 in Boston’s last 26 in game three of a series and 23-10-2 in their last 35 home games.
PICK: I’m going to take the Mariners. We should have a pretty solid starting pitcher battle here though; both guys have been playing well. Flexen put up 6.0 innings with just one earned in his last game, which was a nice bounce-back from a five-earned outing on April 11. I like Eovaldi to pitch well in this one also; I’m thinking it’ll be a lower-scoring affair decided in the late innings.
