The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from Nationals Park on Friday.

The New York Mets will look to rebound from a 2-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Jonathan Villar and Billy McKinney each had a double as the lone pair of base hits for the Mets in the losing effort, with the rest of New York’s lineup batting 0 for 21 with 9 strikeouts in the losing effort. Marcus Stroman took the loss after allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out eight over seven innings of work, falling to 6-5 on the year as a result. Joey Lucchesi will start here and is 1-4 with a 5.18 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. in his career, Lucchesi is 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA and 16 strikeouts against Washington.

The Washington Nationals will look to build on their 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in their last game. All of Washington’s scoring came via the long ball, as Josh Bell had a two-run home run and Yan Gomes belted a solo blast to make up the scoring for the Nationals in the win. Kyle Schwarber, Juan Soto, Luis Garcia and Andrew Stevenson all had base hits to cap off the offense for Washington in the victory. Paolo Espino got the win to improve to 1-2 on the year after tossing five shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking out a pair. Brad Hand closed the door over the final 1.2 innings for his 13th save of the season. Erick Fedde will start here and is 4-4 with a 3.86 ERA and 43 strikeouts this season. in his career, Fedde is 0-2 with a 5.23 ERA in nine appearances, four starts, against the Mets.

New York is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall and 11-5 in their last 16 division games while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 road games. Washington is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall and 5-1 in their last 6 Friday games while the under is 8-0 in their last 8 series-opening games.

The Mets looked disappointing offensively and Washington’s been underwhelming on that end for the whole season more or less, but the pitching matchup here just screams over. Lucchesi’s been batted around all season long for the Mets and while Erick Fedde has pitched well, allowing three or four runs here may be enough to help us get over this number. The over is where I’ll be putting my money in this one.
