The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres meet in an NL West division matchup in MLB action from Petco Park on Friday night.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to rebound from a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers last time out. Both of Arizona’s runs on the board came via the long ball as Eduardo Escobar and Christian Walker each had a solo home run. Josh Rojas added a pair of hits and Pavin Smith added a base hit as well to cap off Arizona’s offense as the D-Backs had just fie hits as a team in the losing effort. Caleb Smith took the loss, falling to 2-3 on the year after allowing one run on four hits while striking out six over six innings of work. Corbin Martin will start here and is 0-2 with an 8.62 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season. This will be Martin’s first career start against the Padres.

The San Diego Padres will try to build off of a 5-3 win over the Dodgers in their last game. Victor Caratini had a home run and two RBIs while Manny Machado added a solo home run. Trent Grisham and Jake Cronenworth each had an RBI and a double while Eric Hosmer added a base hit as well to finish off the offense for San Diego in the win. Joe Musgrove allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out five over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Tim Hill got the win in relief to improve to 4-3 on the year while Mark Melancon closed the door for his 23rd save of the season. Chris Paddack will start here and is 4-5 with a 4.10 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. in his career, Paddack is 2-3 with a 2.39 ERA and 38 strikeouts against Arizona.

Arizona is 13-45 in their last 58 road games and 12-40 in their last 52 division games under is 4-1 in their last 5 series-opening games. San Diego is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall and 45-22 in their last 67 home games while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games as a favorite.

This is a tough one to call, as Arizona’s been bad on the road, but Chris Paddack hasn’t been all that special to lay this kind of price. On the other hand, the Padres are clicking and Corbin Martin’s been up and down as well. Instead, I’m going to side with the over as I think the Padres keep the offense going against Martin and Arizona manages to scratch a couple across against Paddack as well.
