The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from National Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Miami Marlins will look to rebound from a 2-1 loss to the Nats on Friday. Garrett Cooper accounted for the lone RBI for Miami in the losing effort, going 2 for 5 at the dish while Jon Berti and Miguel Rojas each had a double. Jesus Aguilar, Adam Duvall and Lewis Brinson each had a base hit as well to finish off the offense for Miami in the losing effort. Pablo Lopez threw seven shutout innings, allowing six hits with a pair of strikeouts, not factoring in the decision. Yimi Garcia took the loss, falling to 2-2 on the year as a result. Paul Campbell will start here and is 0-1 with an 8.22 ERA and 9 strikeouts this season. This will be Campbell’s first career start against Washington.
The Washington Nationals will try to build on their win over Miami from Friday. Kyle Schwarber went 2 for 4 with a two-run home run to make up the scoring for Washington in the win while Victor Robles and Josh Harrison each went 2 for 3 at the dish and Fadiel Hernandez went 3 for 4 as the four players accounted for all nine of Washington’s base hits in the victory. Jon Lester threw five shutout innings, giving up just five hits and not factoring in the decision. Brad Hand got the win in relief to improve to 2-0 on the year. Patrick Corbin will start here and is 0-3 with a 10.47 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 4-3 with a 3.91 ERA and 77 strikeouts against Miami.
Miami is 4-1 in their last 5 division games and 4-0 in their last 4 Saturday games while the over is 12-3 in their last 15 games against a left-handed starter. Washington is 1-4 in their last 5 division games and 4-0 in their last 4 game tow matchups while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 division games. The over is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
I’m not going to overthink this one, and I’m simply going to back the over here. Campbell has an ERA just over eight in a relief role and will make his first start here, while Corbin’s been brutal so far this season for the Nationals. The two offenses haven’t done much, but I expect the pitching matchup to spark some offense on Saturday. Give me the over.
