The Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners meet Friday in MLB action from T-Mobile Park. The Angels are coming off a series versus the Rangers. LA split the first two in that set, then in the Thursday rubber match the Angels lost by one run. As for the Mariners, they played the A’s this week. Seattle managed a sweep in that series. Los Angeles fell to the Rangers 5-2 in the Tuesday game, but then bounced back for a 7-2 win on Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, the Angels took a rough 7-6 defeat after giving up two runs in the eighth. Alex Cobb put up 5.0 frames with five earned on seven hits in the start.
For the Friday starter job, the Angels will send out Jose Suarez. This year Suarez is 7-8 with a 3.86 ERA and 80 strikeouts to his credit.
Over on the Mariners’ side, they didn’t have too much trouble with the Athletics this week, winning a three-game sweep with victories 13-4 Monday, 4-2 Tuesday and 4-2 Wednesday. Game three starter Logan Gilbert lasted 5.2 innings with one earned on three hits and two walks.
Starting pitcher for the Friday opener will be Seattle’s Marco Gonzales. In his 137.1 innings this year Gonzales has 122 hits, 62 runs (61 earned), 29 homers, 40 walks, 103 Ks and a 4.00 ERA.
The Angels are 15-40 in their last 55 Friday games and 0-6 in their last six in game one of a series. The over is 4-1-1 in LA’s last six in game one of a series as well.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are 4-0 in their last four Friday games and 6-0 in their last six in game one of a series. Seattle is also 20-6 in their last 26 versus the AL West.
PICK: I’m going to stick with the Mariners. Gonzales has been pretty good over his last four starts, putting up a total of eight earned runs on 15 hits and seven walks over 25.0 innings. Gonzales is coming off one earned on three hits and three walks in 7.0 innings versus the Angels on September 26, and he’s hit 6.0 or more innings in each of his last four outings. I like Gonzales to keep it going in a Seattle win here.
