The Washington Nationals and the Miami Marlins meet Thursday in MLB action from Marlins Park. The Nationals are coming off a pair of games versus the Phillies. Washington eked out a win Tuesday, then in the Wednesday game the Nats did it again with a wild one-run victory. As for the Marlins, they played the Blue Jays in their last set. Miami fell in a tough on Tuesday, then in the Wednesday game the Marlins fell again by two runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Washington put up a pair of runs in the first inning Tuesday versus the Phillies and were able to hang on for an eventual 3-2 win. On Wednesday the Nationals fell behind 5-0 and 9-5 within the span of an inning but came back to power out a crazy 13-12 win. Washington had 12 team hits to the Phillies’ 15 in that one.

For the Thursday game one starter, the Nationals will send out Joe Ross. Across his 67.1 innings of work so far, Ross has 60 hits with 40 runs (34 earned), 13 homers allowed, 24 walks, 65 Ks and a 4.54 ERA.

Over on the Marlins’ side, they lost a difficult one on Tuesday versus the Blue Jays, falling 2-1. In the Wednesday matchup, Miami posted five hits but couldn’t do much with them in a 3-1 loss. Starter Trevor Rogers posted 5.0 innings with 5.0 innings and three earned runs.

For the starting pitcher role in the Thursday game, the Marlins will send out Cody Poteet. Across 27.2 innings this year Poteet has 19 hits, 12 earned runs, five homers, 12 walks, 26 strikeouts and a 3.90 ERA.

The Nationals are 1-9 in their last 10 Thursday games and 1-5 in their last six road games with the total set at 9.0-10.5. The under is 5-0 in Washington’s last five Thursday games and 20-5-1 in their last 26 versus the NL East.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 21-45 in their last 66 Thursday games and 4-10 in their last 14 in game one of a series. The under is 10-3 in the Marlins’ last 13 Thursday games and 5-2 in their last seven overall.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Nationals. Ross is coming off a rough outing June 19 versus the Mets, with 6.0 innings, five earned, two homers, six hits and five Ks. that said, in his previous two starts, Ross posted zero earned on eight hits in a combined 14.0 innings. If Washington can get a quality start out of Ross, I think they’ll be in good shape for this one.
