The Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants meet Friday in MLB action from Oracle Park. Pittsburgh is coming off a series versus the Diamondbacks. The Pirates lost all three of those games for a sweep. As for the Giants, they played the Dodgers this week. San Francisco won two of the first three games, then on Thursday the Giants posted a crazy comeback win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Pittsburgh didn’t have any luck with the Diamondbacks this week, losing Monday 4-2, Tuesday 11-6 and Wednesday 6-4. In game three, Pirates pitcher Max Kranick lasted just 3.0 innings with seven hits, one walk, four earned runs and three strikeouts.

For the starter job Friday, the Pirates will go with Chad Kuhl. This year Kuhl has 56.1 innings to his credit with 44 hits, 33 runs (27 earned), seven homers allowed, 33 walks, 45 Ks and a 4.31 ERA.

Over on the Giants’ side, they lost Tuesday to the Dodgers 8-6 but otherwise took Monday’s game 7-2 and Wednesday’s 4-2. In the Thursday game, San Francisco managed four runs in a wild ninth inning to complete an improbable 5-3 comeback win. Anthony DeSclafani put up 6.0 innings with three earned and six hits.

For the starter job in the Friday game, the Giants will go with Johnny Cueto. This year in his 83.0 innings Cueto has 91 hits, 39 runs (37 earned), 12 homers allowed, 16 walks, 70 Ks and a 4.01 ERA.

The Pirates are 5-2 in their last seven after an off day and 24-49 in their last 73 overall. Pittsburgh is 8-17 in their last 25 Friday games and 22-63 in their last 85 road games.

Meanwhile, the Giants are 8-0 in their last eight Friday games and 20-6 in their last 26 in game one of a series. San Francisco is 10-4 in their last 14 versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and the under is 8-3 in their last 11 in game one of a series.

PICK: I’m going to take a shot on the Pirates. Cueto had a good outing his last time up versus the Cardinals with 5.0 innings, one hit and two earned. Prior to that however, Cueto posted nine earned on 16 hits in 11.0 innings over two outings. Kuhl has just one earned on six hits in his last 11.0 innings, so if he can stay hot in this one I think Pittsburgh has a legitimate chance at a W.
