The Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians meet Friday in MLB action from Progressive Field. The Mariners are coming off a series versus the Tigers. Seattle split the first pair of games, then in the Thursday rubber match the Mariners fell by five runs. As for the Indians, they played the Cardinals this week. Cleveland won Tuesday but lost the Wednesday game. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Seattle took a 5-3 loss to the Tigers in the Tuesday game, but bounced back for a 9-6 win on Wednesday in game two. In Thursday’s game the Mariners lost another one 8-3. Seattle starter Justus Sheffield put up 4.0 innings with six hits and three earned in that one.

For the starter job in the Friday game one the Mariners will send out Justin Dunn. Across a 1-2 record this year, Dunn has a 3.18 ERA with 45 strikeouts. In his last outing Dunn put up 5.2 innings with two hits and one earned versus the Ranges.
Over on the Cleveland side, they posted a huge 10-1 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday, but fell in a rough loss 8-2 in the Wednesday matchup. Cleveland’s Jean Carlos Meija went just 0.2 innings with four earned on three hits and two walks with just one K.

For the starter role in the Friday opener, the Indians are sending out Aaron Civale. So far this year over his 80.0 innings Civale has 68 hits, 32 runs (31 earned), 13 homers allowed, 18 walks, 58 Ks and a 3.49 ERA overall.

The Mariners are 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series and 43-90 in the last 133 versus a team with a winning record. Seattle is 5-11 in their last 16 road games and the under is 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Indians are 2-5 in their last seven in game one of a series and 0-5 in their last five Friday games. The over is 6-1 in Cleveland’s last seven in game one of a series and the under is 11-4 in their last 15 versus the AL West.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Indians, but that’s dependent on Civale returning to form. Over his last two starts Civale has been rough, posting eight earned runs on 17 hits with five homers across 12.0 innings. Prior to that he had just three earned in 15.0 innings over two starts. If Civale can find a good rhythm and keep the damage minimal here Cleveland should be in solid shape.
