The Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels meet in an AL West division matchup in MLB action from Angel Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Texas Rangers will look to build on their 3-2 win over the Houston Astros in their last matchup. Nick Solak had a double and an RBI while Nate Lowe and Avisail Garcia each had an RBI as well to finish off Texas’ scoring as a team in the winning effort. Joey Gallo, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Willie Calhoun each had a base hit as well to finish off the offense for Texas as the Rangers had just six hits as a team in the winning effort. Mike Foltynewicz threw seven shutout innings, giving up just three hits while striking out a pair, not factoring in the decision. John King got the win in relief to improve to 5-3 on the year. Hyeon-Jong Yang will start here and is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 15 strikeouts this season. This will be Yang’s first career start against the Angels.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to build on their 6-5 win over Oakland in their last game. Jared Walsh led the way, hitting a home run with two RBIs while Jose Iglesias went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Shohei Ohtani, Jose Rojas and Justin Upton each had an RBI as well to finish off the Angels’ scoring as a team in the win while Juan Lagares and David Fletcher each had a base hit as well to cap off the Angels’ offense as a team in the win. Dylan Bundy allowed four runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts over 2.1 innings of work in the start, not factoring in the decision. Raisel Iglesias took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the year as a result. Andrew Heaney will start here and is 1-3 with a 5.31 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. In his career, Heaney is 2-5 with a 5.17 ERA and 82 strikeouts against Texas.
Texas is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record and 4-9 in their last 13 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 division games. The Angels are 2-5 in their last 7 games overall and 2-7 in their last 9 games as a favorite while the over is 5-1 in their last.6 games following an off day. The under is 20-6-1 in the last 27 meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles.
I get the case that could be made either way, but I’m going to side with the over here. Heaney has been auto-fade material for me for some time now as I’ve watched him get blasted for the long ball left and right, while Yang is still a wild card for me and the Angels still have enough pop in the lineup with Trout and Ohtani to make the Rangers pay. Either way I think a higher-scoring game is on the cards here, so give me the over in this one.
