The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves meet Tuesday in MLB action from SunTrust Park. Washington is coming off a weekend series versus the Mets. The Nationals lost two of the first three games in that set, then on Monday Washington bagged a tight win. As for the Braves, they played the Rockies in their last series. Atlanta managed a 2-2 split in that set. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Washington posted a 4-3 win over the Mets on Saturday but otherwise lost 11-9 and 13-6 in the other two weekend games. On Monday, the Nationals had 13 team hits and two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off 4-3 victory. Washington gave up 12 hits to the Mets in the win as well.

For the Tuesday game, the Nationals will go with Paolo Espino. In his 86.0 frames this year Espino has 83 hits, 40 runs (39 earned), 15 homers allowed, 16 walks, 70 Ks and a 4.08 ERA.

Over on the Braves’ side, they lost 4-3 Friday and 7-6 Saturday to the Rockies, but otherwise got wins 6-5 Thursday and 9-2 on Sunday. In the finale victory, Atlanta starter Charlie Morton lasted 7.0 innings with two earned on two hits and two walks.

Starting pitcher for the Tuesday game will be Atlanta’s Max Fried. This year in 130.2 innings Fried has 119 hits, 55 runs (51 earned), 14 homers allowed, 35 walks, 131 Ks and a 3.51 ERA.

Washington is 14-37 in their last 51 overall and 6-20 in their last 26 road games. The Nationals are 8-20 in their last 28 with a total of 9.0-10.5 and the over is 4-1 in the last five Tuesday games.

Meanwhile, the Braves are 5-0 in their last five after an off day and 14-3 in their last 17 versus a team with a losing record. Atlanta is 5-2 in their last seven Tuesday games and 19-7 in their last 26 versus the NL East.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Braves. Fried had a nice run going in August, posting just two earned over a series of four starts. In his last pair, Fried has been a bit less effective but still solid on 12.0 innings, eight hits, three homers, one walk and five earned runs. I like Fried to put up another good start in this one and help Atlanta to a victory.
