The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves meet Saturday in MLB action from SunTrust Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game set between these teams this weekend. In the series opener Friday, the Dodgers posted a four-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Los Angeles managed a series victory over the Cardinals this week, recording wins 9-4 Monday and 14-3 on Wednesday. In the Friday game versus the Braves, the Dodgers posted eight runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 9-5 win. Starter Julio Urias went 5.0 innings with one earned on four hits.
For the starting pitcher role on Saturday, the Dodgers are sending out Clayton Kershaw. Over his 70.1 innings this year so far, Kershaw has 55 hits, 27 runs (26 earned), eight homers allowed, 13 walks, 77 Ks and a 3.33 ERA.
Over on the Braves’ side, they split a four-game set with the Nationals this week, winning Monday 5-3 and Thursday 5-1. In the Friday game, Atlanta flirted with a comeback with four runs in the eighth but ultimately couldn’t bridge the gap. Ian Anderson lasted 4.1 innings with four earned on three walks and a hit.
For the Saturday starting role, the Braves are going with Charlie Morton. Over his 57.0 innings this year, Morton has 52 hits, 33 runs (27 earned), seven homers allowed, 21 walks, 67 Ks and a 4.26 ERA.
The Dodgers are 7-2 in their last nine Saturday games and 77-29 in their last 106 versus a team with a losing record. LA is 24-10 in their last 34 in game two of a series and 35-17 in their last 52 versus the NL East.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 4-1 in their last five versus a lefty starter and 5-16 in their last 21 versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. The over is 5-2 in Atlanta’s last seven Saturday games and the under is 6-2 in their last eight versus a lefty starter.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Braves in this one. Morton gave up three earned in 5.0 innings his last time out, but prior to that had posted just two earned in 13.0 innings over two starts. As for Kershaw, he’s been solid on the road this year and should have a good outing in this game as well. Should be a fun matchup, but I think Atlanta can eke one out.
