The Miami Marlins and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet in MLB action from PNC Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Miami Marlins will try to bounce back after an 8-7 loss in extra innings to Pittsburgh in their last game. Jorge Alfaro, Jesus Aguilar and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each had two RBIs with Alfaro and Chisholm Jr each posting a two-run home run and Chisholm Jr. adding a double as well while Aguilar went 4 for 6 with a solo home run. Isan Diaz had a double and an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Fish in the losing effort. Corey Dickerson and Lewis Brinson each had a double as well and Magneuris Sierra added a base hit as well to finish off the offense for Miami in defeat. Trevor Rogers allowed two earned runs on four hits while striking out five over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Adam Cimber ended up with the loss in the 12th inning to fall to 1-2 on the year as a result. Sandy Alcantara will start here and is 2-5 with a 3.68 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. In his career, Alcantara is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to keep the momentum going and pick up another win over the Marlins after Saturday’s win. Adam Frazier led the charge with two RBIs while Jacob Stallings went 2 for 5 with an RBI. Ka’al Tom, Kevin Newman and Gregory Polanco each had an RBI while Ke’Bryan Hayes added a double and Bryan Reynolds had a base hit as well to rund out the offense for the Pirates in the victory. Chase De Jong gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out five over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Clay Holmes got the win in relief to improve to 2-0 on the year. Chad Kuhl will start here and is 0-2 with a 6.41 ERA and 19 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kuhl is 0-2 with a 4.80 ERA and 6 strikeouts against Miami.

Miami is 0-8 in their last 8 games overall and 18-38 in their last 56 games against the NL Central while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 Sunday games. Pittsburgh is 5-1 in their last 6 home games and 1-4 in their last 5 Sunday games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. The over is 6-0-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 5-0-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Pittsburgh.

With the recent starts from Alcantara and Kuhl, one would think we’d be leaning to the over kind of how Saturday’s matchup played out. However, I still believe that Alcantara is one of Miami’s top two starters and Kuhl has had his moments where he’s pitched capably. Let’s also not forget that these are two of the weaker offenses in the majors despite what we saw on Saturday. Give me the under in this one.
