The Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Tuesday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. The Braves are coming off a weekend series versus the Dodgers. Atlanta lost Friday but won the other two games to take the set. As for the Phillies, they played the Nationals. Philly also lost their first game and won the next pair. Atlanta fell the Los Angeles 9-5 in the Friday game, but came back to win the series with victories 6-4 Saturday and 4-2 on Sunday. In the finale, Braves starter Max Fried had a nice game with 6.0 innings, six hits, one earned and four strikeouts.

For the Tuesday starting pitcher role, the Braves are sending out Drew Smyly. Over his 46.2 innings of work this year, Smyly has 48 hits, 36 runs (31 earned), 14 homers allowed, 16 walks, 43 Ks and a 5.98 ERA.

Over on the Phillies’ side, They took a tough 2-1 loss to the Nationals on Friday but managed wins 5-2 Saturday and 12-6 Sunday for a series victory. In the Sunday game, starter Vince Velasquez had 4.0 innings with three earned on four hits, one walk and four Ks.

For the Tuesday starting pitcher job, the Phillies are going with Aaron Nola. Over his 70.1 innings this year Nola has 67 hits, 31 runs (30 earned), eight homers allowed, 15 walks, 78 Ks and a 3.84 ERA.

The Braves are 5-2 in their last seven versus a team with a losing record and the under is 6-1 in their last seven Tuesday games. The under is 5-1 in the Braves’ last six after an off day and 4-1-1 in the last six versus a team with a losing record.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are 5-0 in their last five Tuesday games and 6-18 in their last 24 after a win. The Phillies are 0-5 in their last five in game one of a series and 1-7 in their last eight versus a lefty starter.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Phillies. Smyly is coming off three earned on seven hits in 4.1 innings, and he’s given up 10 earned over his last 9.2 frames. As for Nola, he posted three earned on eight hits in 5.0 innings versus the Reds his last time up. Nola is also the ninth pitcher in Phillies history to reach 1,000 strikeouts. I like Philly to be in a good position here.
