The Los Angeles Angels and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in MLB action from Chase Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to build on their 8-7 win over Arizona from Saturday. Anthony Rendon had a home run, a double and four RBIs while Taylor Ward, Jose Iglesias, Phil Gosselin and Kolten Wong each chipping in an RBI to finish off the Angels’ scoring in the win with Iglesias and Ward each going 2 for 5 with a double. Max Stassi went 2 for 5 with a double and Juan Lagares added a double as well while Jared Walsh and Shohei Ohtani each had a base hit to finish off the offense for the Angels in the winning effort. Alex Cobb gave up five earned runs on seven hits while striking out three over three innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Alex Claudio got the win to improve to 1-1 on the year while Raisel Iglesias closed out the deal for his 11th save of the season. Patrick Sandoval will start here and is 0-2 with a 3.62 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. This will be Sandoval’s first career start against Arizona.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to rebound and get some revenge after their loss to the Angels on Saturday. Josh Rojas and David Peralta each had a pair of RBIs with Rojas chipping in a pair of solo home runs while Eduardo Escobar, Christian Walker and Nick Ahmed each put up RBIs to finish off the D-Backs’ scoring as a team in the loss with Walker going 2 for 4 with a double. Stephen Vogt went 2 for 4 with a double as well while Josh Reddick added a base hit to cap off the offense for the Diamondbacks in the loss. Caleb Smith gave up four earned runs on five hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Joakim Soria took the loss in relief, falling to 0-3 on the year as a result. Jon Duplantier will start here and is 0-2 with a 10.03 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. This will be Duplantier’s first career start against the Angels.

I’m not trying to back either once of these teams if we’re being completely honest. However, Patrick Sandoval’s at least shown some growth as of late and the Angels still have some pop in their bats while the Diamondbacks are just inept in every sense of the word offensively. I also don’t trust Jon Duplantier from the small sample size we’ve seen this season, so give me the Angels here in a game I’d probably leave alone if we’re being honest.
