The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from American Family Field on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to bounce back from a 7-4 loss at the hands of the Brew Crew on Saturday. Ka’al Tom had a triple and an RBI and Bryan Reynolds added an RBI as well while Erik Gonzalez chipped in a triple as well and Adam Frazier went 3 for 5 with a double. Phillip Evans, Colin Moran, Chad Kuhl and Kevin Newman all added base hits as well to finish off the offense for the Pirates in the loss. Kuhl took the loss on the bump for the Pirates after allowing five earned runs on five hits while striking out a pair over 3.1 innings of work. Wil Crowe will start here and is 0-4 with a 7.26 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. This will be Crowe’s first career start against Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to pick up another win after their triumph over the Pirates on Saturday. Christian Yelich led the charge, going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs while Omar Narvaez added a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs while Willy Adames added a double and an RBI as well for the Brew Crew. Corbin Burnes added an RBI to help his own cause and to cap off the scoring for the Brewers in the win while Pablo Reyes and Tim Lopes each had base hits as well to finish off Milwaukee’s offense. Burned gave up two earned runs on eight hits while striking out eight over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Trevor Richards got the win in relief to improve to 1-0 while Josh Hader closed out the 9th for his 16th save of the season. Adrian Houser will start here and is 4-5 with a 3.66 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. In his career, Houser is 1-3 with a 6.04 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 11-28 in their last 39 games overall and 22-52 in their last 74 games as an underdog while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 road games. Milwaukee is 5-0 in their last 5 home games and 12-2 in their last 14 games overall while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 division games. These are two of the harder offensive units to trust in the majors, with the Pirates the lowest-scoring team in the majors while Milwaukee’s offense has been quiet more often than not this season. With that said, I’m siding with the over here, as neither Wil Crowe or Adrian Houser have been starters that have been good at keeping runs off of the board this season and I think we could see a similar game to what we saw on Saturday with a double-digit total a definite possibility when all is said and done. Give me the over.
