The San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies meet in an NL West division matchup in MLB action from Coors Field on Monday night.

The San Diego Padres will look to build on a 7-3 win over the New York Mets last time out. Fernando Tatis Jr. led the way with a grand slam, while Tommy Pham went 2 for 3 with a solo home run and two total RBIs and Manny Machado had a solo homer as well to finish off the scoring for the Padres in the win. Wil Myers, Eric Hosmer and Jake Cronenworth each had a base hit as well to cap off San Diego’s offense as a team in the victory. Chris Paddack got the win to improve to 3-5 on the year after allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine over six innings of work. Dinelson Lamet will start here and is 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lamet is 0-2 with a 3.28 ERA and 30 strikeouts against Colorado.

The Colorado Rockies will look to rebound from a 6-2 loss at the hands of Cincinnati last time out. Ryan McMahon had a solo home run while Charlie Blackmon added an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Rockies in the loss. Raimel Tapia added a pair of hits and Yonathan Daza had a double while Dom Nunez added a base hit as well to finish off Colorado’s offense as the Rockies had just six hits as a team in the defeat. Antonio Senzatela took the loss, falling to 2-7 on the year after allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Austin Gomber will start here and is 5-5 with a 3.95 ERA and 71 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gomber is 0-0 with a 1.38 ERA against the Padres.

San Diego is 6-1 in their last 7 division games and 7-0 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 series-opening games. Colorado is 17-36 in their last 53 games following a loss and 16-37 in their last 53 games as an underdog while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. San Diego is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Colorado.

I get the case that could be made for either side here, but I’m going to side with the under. Gomber’s pitched well at Coors Field with a 1.33 ERA which is rare for Coors Field while Lamet’s a flamethrower and even if he goes five or six innings, I think he will end up missing quite a few bats here so give me the under in what could be an under the radar pitcher’s duel.
