The Boston Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves meet Wednesday in MLB action from SunTrust Park. This will be the second installment in a quick two-game series between these teams. In the Tuesday opener, the Red Sox posted a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Boston played the Blue Jays over the weekend, managing wins Friday and Monday for a split series. In the opener versus the Braves Tuesday, Boston posted four runs in the first inning and battled out a 10-8 victory. Eduardo Rodriguez lasted 4.0 innings with four earned on six hits.
For the starting pitcher role in the Wednesday game, the Red Sox are bringing out Garrett Richards. Over his 70.1 innings this year, Richards has 78 hits, 34 runs (32 earned), five homers allowed, 34 walks, 61 Ks and a 4.09 ERA.
Over on the Braves’ side, they managed just one victory versus the Marlins over the weekend, winning Sunday 6-4. In the Tuesday opener, Atlanta posted a valiant comeback effort but ultimately fell short. Tucker Davidson put up 2.1 innings with five earned on five hits.
For the Wednesday starter job, the Braves are sending out Ian Anderson. In his 66.1 innings of work this year, Anderson has 52 hits, 24 earned runs, six homers allowed, 26 walks, 69 Ks and a 3.26 ERA.
The Red Sox are 38-13 in their last 51 interleague road games and 38-15 in their last 53 interleague games versus a team with a losing record. Boston is 53-25 in their last 78 Wednesday games and the under is 8-3 in their last 11 road games versus a team with a losing record.
PICK: I’m sticking with the Red Sox. Anderson had a nice outing in his last start, going 7.0 innings with no earned on four hits. That said, he gave up eight earned in 8.1 innings over his two starts prior to that. As for Richards, he’s struggled a bit with seven earned on 19 hits over his last 10.1 innings. I like Richards to be more effective here however, and put Boston in position to get a win.
