The Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals meet in MLB action from Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Detroit Tigers will look to build off of a 10-3 dismantling of the Royals in Monday’s series opener. Niko Goodrum led the way, going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs while Willi Castro had a two-run home run and Miguel Cabrera added a pair of RBIs as well. Robbie Grossman had a solo home run while Jonathan Schoop added a double and an RBI. Nomar Mazara added an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Tigers in the win. Erik Haase added a double while Akil Baddoo and Harold Castro each had a base hit as well to finish off the offense for Detroit in the win. Matt Boyd threw 2.1 innings of work, but it was Joe Jimenez who got the win to improve to 2-0 on the year. Casey Mize will start here and is 3-4 with a 3.44 ERA and 59 strikeouts this season. In his career, Mize is 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA and 11 strikeouts against Kansas City.

The Kansas City Royals will look to rebound from their loss to the Tigers on Monday. Jorge Soler went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Hanser Alberto added a double and an RBI as well and Sal Perez had an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for KC in the loss. Whit Merrifield went 3 for 4 with a double and Kelvin Gutierrez had a pair of hits with a double as well while Carlos Santana had a pair of hits of his own. Edward Olivares and Michael A. Taylor each had a base knock as well as the Royals totaled 14 hits as a team in the losing effort. Brad Keller took the loss, falling to 6-6 on the year after allowing six earned runs on eight hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Mike Minor will start here and is 5-3 with a 4.50 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. In his career, Minor is 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA and 40 strikeouts against Detroit.

Detroit is 78-168 in their last 246 games overall and 32-75 in their last 107 road games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Kansas City is 1-9 in their last 10 games overall and 8-18 in their last 26 division games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite. Detroit is 6-13 in the last 19 meetings between these two teams in Kansas City.

I’ll start by saying there are better betting options on Tuesday’s card, but if you absolutely feel the need to bet this game, I think there’s value with the Tigers once again. I’m still not a Mike Minor fan personally, and Casey Mize has had a couple of rough outings, but the edge in starting pitching is with the Tigers here. If Detroit can replicate even a sliver of the success they had offensively on Monday, they’ll be in a good spot here. I’ll take the Tigers and the plus money here.
