The Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland Athletics meet Wednesday in MLB action from O.co Coliseum. This will be the third and final installment in a series between these teams this week. In the Monday opener, the A’s posted a three-run win. On Tuesday, Oakland kept it going with a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Los Angeles managed 14 hits in the Monday game but couldn’t translate that to the scoreboard in an 8-5 defeat. On Tuesday, the Angels gave up three runs in the sixth during a 6-4 loss. Andrew Heaney went 5.0 innings with three earned on five hits.
For the Wednesday starting pitcher role, the Angels are going with Griffin Canning. Over his 50.0 innings this year, Canning has 50 hits, 30 runs (29 earned), 11 homers allowed, 22 walks, 56 Ks and a 5.22 ERA.

Over on the A’s side, they got going quickly in the Monday game, dropping seven runs in the first three innings. In the Tuesday game, Oakland managed eight team hits as they powered out the win. Frankie Montas posted 7.0 innings with five hits and two earned.

For Wednesday’s outing, the A’s will go with Cole Irvin as the starter. Across 75.1 innings this year, Irvin has 79 hits, 33 runs (31 earned), eight homers allowed, 12 walks, 54 Ks and a 3.70 ERA.

The Angels are 5-0 in their last five in game three of a series and 9-3 in their last 12 versus a lefty starter. LA is 7-19 in their last 26 Wednesday games and 4-11 in their last 15 road games versus a lefty starter.

Meanwhile, the A’s are 41-19 in the last 60 Wednesday games and 69-31 in their last 100 versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. The over is 17-8-1 in the Athletics’ last 26 in game three of a series and the under is 26-6-1 in their last 33 with the total set at 11.0 or higher.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the A’s here. We should have a nice starter matchup on our hands regardless, though. Irvin has just two earned on 12 hits in 12.0 innings over his last two starts. As for Canning, he’s coming off 6.2 innings with one earned on five hits versus the Royals. I like Irvin to pitch slightly better in this one and put Oakland in a good spot for a win.
