The Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres meet in MLB action from Petco Park on Thursday.

The Cincinnati Reds will look to build on a 2-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers last time out. Tyler Naquin and Tucker Barnhart each had a double and an RBI while Jesse Winker, Nick Castellanos, Joey Votto and Mike Freeman each had a base hit to cap off the offense for Cincinnati as the Reds had just six hits as a team in the winning effort. Tyler Mahle got the win to improve to 7-2 on the year after allowing one run on three hits while striking out 12 over six innings of work. Luicas Sims closed out the 9th for his 7th save of the year. Wade Miley will start here and is 6-4 with a 2.92 ERA and 51 strikeouts this season. In his career, Miley is 1-6 with a 5.38 ERA and 57 strikeouts against San Diego.

The San Diego Padres will look to bounce back from an 8-7 loss to the Colorado Rockies in their last game. Trent Grisham led the charge, going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs while Jake Cronenworth and Fernando Tatis Jr. each had a solo home run with Tatis Jr. going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs on the day. Manny Machado had a double and an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Padres in the loss while Tommy Pham, Wil Myers, Jurickson Profar and Ha-Seong Kim each had a base hit to cap off San Diego’s offense as a team in the loss. Blake Snell gave up seven runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings of work in the start, not factoring in the decision. Austin Adams ended up with the loss, falling to 2-1 on the year as a result. Joe Musgrove will start here and is 4-6 with a 2.50 ERA and 96 strikeouts this season. In his career, Musgrove is 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 35 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 5-0 in their last 5 games following a win and 2-7 in their last 9 Thursday games while the over is 13-3-1 in their last 17 games against the NL West. San Diego is 4-1 in their last 5 Thursday games and 42-17 in their last 59 games as a home favorite while the under is 4-1-1 in their last NL Central. The under is 7-0 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

This is a low total, but I honestly think it’s low for a reason. Miley has been pitching pretty well as of late and while Musgrove doesn’t have the best win-loss record, he’s been putting on solid performances for the better part of the season for his hometown team. I think we could see a pitcher’s duel and when I first saw this game all I thought was 3-2. Give me the under here.
