The Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees meet Friday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium. The A’s are coming off a series versus the Angels. Oakland was able to sweep all three games in that set. As for the Yankees, they just played the Blue Jays. After close wins in the first two games, on Thursday New York banged out a four-run victory. Oakland had a nice series versus the Angels this week, posting wins 8-5 Monday, 6-4 Tuesday and 8-4 Wednesday. In the finale, A’s pitcher Cole Irvin lasted 5.2 innings with nine hits, four earned, two walks and two strikeouts.

For the starter job in the Friday game, the A’s will send out James Kaprielian. Over his 32.1 innings this year, Kaprielian has 22 hits, nine earned runs, three homers allowed, 16 walks, 35 Ks and a 2.51 ERA overall.

Over on the Yankees’ side, they were able to eke out victories over the Blue Jays 6-5 Tuesday and 3-2 on Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, New York posted four runs in the seventh on the way to an 8-4 win.
For the starter job in the Friday game, the Yankees will send out Jameson Taillon. Over 53.1 innings this year Taillon has 56 hits, 34 earned, 10 homers allowed, 17 walks, 58 Ks and a 5.74 ERA.

The A’s are 8-0 in their last eight after an off day and 4-1 in their last five road games. Oakland is 15-4 in their last 19 in game one of a series and 37-15 in their last 52 Friday games.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are 69-27 in their last 96 home games versus a right-handed starter and 5-2 in their last seven versus the AL West. New York is 2-5 in their last seven in game one of a series and 94-45 in their last 139 home games.

PICK: I’m sticking with the A’s. Kaprielian has gotten himself off to a good start, with just one instance of more than two earned runs (four versus the Mariners on May 31). In his last pair, Kaprielian has two earned on seven hits in 11.0 innings, but has walked seven batters. Still, considering Kaprielian has a .131 opposing BA versus right-handers, he should do well versus this inconsistent Yankees lineup.
