The Miami Marlins and the Chicago Cubs meet Sunday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. This will be the final installment in a three-game set between these teams over the weekend. The Marlins bagged a big win Friday, then in the Saturday game Miami kept it going with a blowout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Miami got a nice victory on Friday, posting five runs in the third on the way to a 10-2 win. In the Saturday game, the Marlins got off to a fast 6-0 start in an eventual 11-1 blowout win. Pablo Lopez lasted 7.0 innings with one hit, no earned and seven Ks.

For the Sunday starting pitcher job, the Marlins will send out Zach Thompson. This year in two starts and 8.0 innings of work, Thompson has a 1-1 record, a 2.25 ERA and seven strikeouts to his credit.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they had an early lead Friday but could only come up with four hits in the loss. In the Saturday matchup, Chicago had another bad offensive day with just three hits. Jake Arrieta lasted 3.0 innings with four earned on six hits.
For the starter job in the Sunday game, the Cubs will turn to Alec Mills. Across his 28.0 innings this year, Mills has 31 hits with 21 runs (19 earned), four homers allowed, 12 walks, 21 Ks and a 6.11 ERA.

The Marlins are 7-19 in their last 26 road games and 17-36 in their last 53 versus the NL Central. The under is 8-1 in Miami’s last nine Sunday games and 9-3 in their last 12 in game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 41-20 in their last 61 home games with the total set at 9.0-10.5. The under is 5-0 in the Cubs’ last five Sunday games and 4-1-1 in their last six in game three of a series.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Marlins, but probably staying away from this one. Mills had an up-and-down appearance versus the Mets on June 15, going 4.1 innings with five hits, three earned, two walks and six Ks. This will only be his third start, so the Cubs will have the bullpen up and working early if Mills has issues. Miami looks good here if they can get their offense moving.
