The Tampa Bay Rays will look to bounce back from a 6-5 loss at the hands of the Rays in the last matchup. Mike Zunino led the way with two RBIs including a solo home run while Brandon Lowe and Manuel Margot each had a solo home run as well. Joey Wendle added an RBI with a double while going 3 for 4 at the dish with a double to cap off Tampa Bay’s scoring as a team in the loss. Austin Meadows and Taylor Walls each had a base hit as well to cap off the offense for the Rays in the loss. Josh Fleming allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out five over 6.1 innings of work. J.P. Feyereisen took the loss, falling to 3-1 on the year as a result. Shane McClanahan will start here and is 2-2 with a 4.42 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season. This will be McClanahan’s fist career start against Seattle.

The Seattle Mariners will look to build on their win over the Rays from Saturday. J.P. Crawford led the charge with a grand slam while Mitch Haniger and Jake Bauers each had an RBI as well to finish off the scoring for the Mariners in the winning effort. Kyle Seager went 2 for 4 with a double and Dylan Moore added a double as well while Tom Murphy, Ty France, and Jake Fraley each had a base hit as well in the victory to cap off Seattle’s offense in the win. Logan Gilbert gave up four runs on six hits while striking out seven over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Rafael Montero got the win in relief to improve to 4-2 on the year. Marco Gonzales will start here and is 1-4 with a 5.44 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. in his career, Gonzales is 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA and 23 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.

I’m struggling to find the edge between the two sides here, as McClanahan’s slowed down from a strong start while Marco Gonzales was hit hard in his return to the lineup. With that said, the lingering issue for the Mariners is that soft-hitting lineup that’s struggling to produce offense consistently. McClanahan wasn’t terrible in his last start, and if he can replicate some of that, he’ll put the Rays in a decent spot to get the win here.
